The following is a list of activities for the year 2009-2010

ART HONOR SOCIETY
The purpose of this club is to encourage students with artistic talent,
and promote service to the school through a variety of artistic endeavors.

Membership by invitation only.
Advisor: Ms. Colleen Makowsky



CLASS CLUBS
These clubs encourage school and class spirit through a variety of school activities.
Students help class officers plan dances, proms, and fund raising activities.

FRESHMAN CLASS



CHEERLEADERS
These students cheer at all football and basketball games. They organize the Pep Dance in
September and decorate the fence with posters before each home football game.
The cheerleaders practice for, and participate in cheering tournaments during the winter season.

Varsity Advisor: Ms. Alyssa Ruggero


COLOR GUARD
The color guard presents the school colors and performs a routine with flags at all football games.
They also perform at the Band Festival in October.

DANCE CLUB
The members of the dance club perform at various events including pep rallies,   
competitions, and their annual Dance Showcase.  Members also organize and participate in fund
raisers and attend dance and choreography workshops.  Yearly auditions are held in the spring.

Advisor: Cari Koblitz

DEBATE CLUB
The purpose of this club is to develop debating and public speaking skills. Members must be
willing to do research about the national topic up for debate during the current year.

Advisors: Mr. Rich Markert

DUMONT CAPTAINS FOR TOMORROW’S CHILDREN
This is a service organization designed to instill a feel for giving and caring. In addition to bringing gifts
donated by Dumont Athletic Booster Association, Bauer Sport Shop and Honiss Student Council,
the captains from each sport sit with a child at Hackensack University Medical Center and promise to
wear the child’s name taped to their uniform during his/her next competition. This visit is then followed
up with a letter about the competition and a picture of the athlete and patient together.

ECOLOGY CLUB
The purpose of this club is to actively involve students in the concept of “Thinking Globally Act Locally”. The club has instituted recycling programs, plans educational promotions and takes field trips of ecological interest.
Advisor: Mr. Craig Post

FORENSICS TEAM
The purpose of this organization is to help improve public communication skills through competition.
The club fields a team of students to take part in Forensics Tournaments. The Public Speaking events include: Extemporaneous Speaking, Impromptu Speaking and Persuasive Speaking. Oral Interpretation Events include Poetry Interpretation, Prose Interpretation and Storytelling. Dramatic Speaking includes Dramatic Monologue, Comedic Monologue, Improvisational Acting Pairs, Dramatic Pairs and Scene Competition.

HUSKIES AGAINST DRUGS (HAD)
The purpose of the club is to promote a drug and alcohol free society. Students involved
in this club learn how to cope with peer pressure when confronted with drugs and drinking alcohol.

Advisors: Mr. Sean O’Beirne/Mrs. Tara Lennox

ITALIAN HONOR SOCIETY
The purpose of this club is to encourage scholarship, leadership, service and good character in the area of Italian. Membership is by invitation only.
Advisor: Mr. Joe Materia

LIGHTING CREW
This group of students is active in providing stage and lighting for both assemblies and all school productions.
Through extensive training, the lighting crew has become very professional.

Advisor: Mrs. Lynn Bonilla

MARCHING BAND
This group of musicians meets on the marching band field for practice. They give numerous
performances and participate in pep rallies and assemblies. Every week they play the
Star Spangled Banner and perform a half-time show at the football game.

Advisor: Mr. Rich Chiandusse

MATH TEAM
This team attends meets at various schools. At each meet, questions are distributed and a time limit is
set for each question. At the conclusion of the year awards are given to the top scorer from each school.

Advisors: Mrs. Liza Frangiosa/Mr. Scott Wisniewski

MEDIA CLUB
This club photographs and videotapes all school productions and sporting activities.
In addition, it produces promotional videos for school programs. Students take field trips to
production facilities and studio set-ups throughout the metropolitan area.

MU ALPHA THETA
This is a National Honor Society for outstanding math students in high school and junior college.
The group participates in math-related projects. Membership is by invitation only.

Advisors: Mrs. Liza Frangiosa/Mr. Scott Wisniewski

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
The purpose of this membership by invitation only club is to encourage scholarship,
leadership, service and good character.

Advisors: Ms. Anna Collard/Mr. Marcos Vargas

ORACLE
This club plans a major issue of the school literary magazine for sale at the end of the school year.
The production and literary groups work in cooperation to produce the magazine.

(PALS) PEERS AS LISTENERS
The purpose of this club is to provide an interactive, dynamic peer information exchange program
comprised of a cross section of the student population in our school. It is intended to help students who are experiencing academic, social and/or emotional difficulties in their lives by providing a network of
trained fellow students. This club is open to sophomores and juniors in good academic standing.

Advisor: Dr. Paul Collins

PEER MEDIATON
The purpose of this club is to train students to act as peer mediators to settle disagreements between students.
Advisors: Mr. Jeff Sokolik/Mrs. Lee Pope/Ms. Lori Liskiewicz

PERISCOPE
The school newspaper is designed to keep faculty and students informed as to what is going on in the school community. The Periscope has won many awards, which reflects the hard work of the staff and its advisor.
Advisor: Ms. Rachel Babashak/Mrs. Meredith Glaser

REVERIES
It is the responsibility of the Reveries staff to prepare, sell and publish the
high school yearbook,
covering the events for the entire year.
Advisor:  Ms. Susan Eisen / Business Manager: Mr. Andrew Hoffman

SCHOOL MUSICAL/DRAMA
This group participates in school productions. Students audition for play parts and are
awarded the part that they act out the best. Auditions are open to students in all four grade levels.
Advisor: Ms. Betsy Tuxill

S.O. NIGHT
This major school production allows students from all grade levels to audition and participate
in a variety show. The show is performed on three consecutive evenings during the school year.
Advisor: Mr. Dan Cooke

SPANISH CLUB
The members of this club study Spanish culture and participate in cultural events throughout the school year.
Advisors:  Mrs. Hilda Luciano/Mrs. Jocelyn Buller

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY
The purpose of this club is to encourage scholarship, leadership, service and good
character in the area of Spanish. Membership in this club is by invitation only.
Advisor: Mrs. Hilda Luciano

STAGE CREW
This club is active in all school productions by providing the behind the scenes support for all school plays.
Advisor: Mr. Curt Banicki

STUDENT COUNCIL
The council acts as the governing body for the entire student population. Representatives from
each homeroom, club and class are invited to discuss student-generated projects and problems.
Advisor: Mr. Andrew Hoffman/Mr. Andrew Wells

TEEN FREEDOM CORPS (TFC)
TFC is a group that is committed to encouraging, coordinating, and recognizing high school students as civic and community service participants. The general mission of the group is for students to care, commit, and connect with their community, state, and nation. Specifically, the group is responsible for organizing such activities as: registering voters in the school and community, hosting a community service/volunteer fair, and engaging in various community service activities.

UNITY/YOUTH COUNCIL…DHS CHAPTER
The goal of the Unity Club is to provide an understanding of the common bond shared by all of the cultures of the world.Youth Council is a group of students from various high schools throughout Bergen County who try to raise the quality of life for the homeless by volunteering services to non-profit organizations such as the Center for Food Action, The Holly Center, a shelter for children in Hackensack and other emergency shelters.

YOUTH THEATRE
This club is open to all students interested in all aspects of theater
from acting and directing to play-writing and scene design.
Advisor: Ms. Betsy Tuxill
