I am very excited to be starting my eighth year as the Principal of Dumont High School, and my twenty-third year in the district. It is hard to believe how fast the time has gone. As I look back over the course of my time as Principal, it is hard to believe how much Dumont High School has accomplished in a very short time.
From a building standpoint, the High School has had significant building upgrades including the renovations of the Auditorium, Band Room, Choir Room, Art Room, Quirk Gymnasium, and the Athletic Field has been re-turfed. The High School roof was redone, and all windows and doors have been replaced.
Dumont High School continues to improve the curriculum by continually offering new programs such as the Ceramics class, AP Statistics, AP Music Theory, the Life Skills Program, Psychology, AP Psychology, Popular Music, Criminal Justice, Forensics, Botany, and Astronomy. The students have consistently excelled in all of the new programs, along with classes that have been well established, as evident by test scores. For example, Dumont High School has once again been placed on the AP Honor Roll for the second time.
The school community has also continued to grow during the past year as well. Dumont High School has implemented a very popular Student of the Month program, where we highlight a student who has been an upstander in the school. The students also have responded very positively to the High School’s Teacher Feature. This is a program where students are given bits of information and they have to guess who the teacher is. In addition, Dumont High School has continued to run the Relay For Life and has raised over $350,000 for cancer research.
As you can see, I am very proud of all of the accomplishments of the students and the school community. I look forward to continuing to work with parents, teachers, and students on exploring ways in which Dumont High School can improve its programs and culture.
