The Road Back: Restart and Recovery Plan for Education
In light of the announcement by Governor Murphy that schools will reopen in September and the Department of Education’s release of the “The Road Back: Restart and Recovery Plan for Education,” I have convened a committee of over 35 community stakeholders to develop a plan to address this important issue. The committee includes district- and school-level administrators, school board members, local education association representatives, educators, parents, and students. They have been charged with developing a plan in a few short weeks, which will allow our students to return to school safely, while at the same time adhering to the daily guideline changes put out by the DOE, state and now even the Federal Government.
Parent and staff surveys were developed and collected to provide the committee with the input necessary to ensure that the plan meets the needs of the educational community. The committee is carefully reviewing the Department of Education’s 104-page report and is in the process of addressing its recommendations and guidelines. Our plan must be submitted to the County Superintendent of Schools by the last week in July, who will then review it and forward it to the Department of Education for approval. We expect that it will be available to be shared with the district parents and staff by early August.
