Reopening Update (Phase 2)

I hope this finds you and your family well. As we are preparing to enter Phase 2 of our reopening plan, the District Restart Committee, School Pandemic Teams, District administrators and staff have been working hard to implement Phase 1 of our plan, evaluate its progress, review concerns from stakeholders, and make the difficult decision on how best to move forward. There is no illusion that whatever is decided will satisfy all involved or address all the individual concerns from parents, students and staff. However, our plan going forward must focus on safety first and our ability to implement with the best of intentions.

With that being said, we are going to extend our present format, Cohort A and B, with Wednesday all virtual through the end of the first marking period on November 4. Beginning on November 9 with Marking Period 2, we will eliminate the all-virtual Wednesday and add it to our cycle. The new format will span over two weeks.

During Week 1, Cohort A will meet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, while Cohort B will meet on Thursday and Friday. During week 2, Cohort A will meet on Monday and Tuesday, while Cohort B will meet on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (see table below).

In addition, we are planning on having our pre-school students attend school 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) beginning November 9th. Additional information about our pre-school schedule will be forthcoming from the building Principal and the Director of Special Services. To begin planning for our next phase, we are sending out a new survey that must be completed and returned in a timely manner. A survey message will be forthcoming and a link to the survey can also be found on our website.

NOTE: Due to the change in our timeline, the information collected from this survey will serve as your request for which program (either Hybrid or All-Virtual) your child will be enrolled in during the 2nd marking period.

We are also in the process of reviewing our present staffing, student schedules and in-person enrollment numbers, to determine whether any additional changes can be made. We will continue to evaluate our progress, the effectiveness of our implementation, and work toward addressing the concerns expressed by stakeholders, while maintaining our focus on the safety of all involved. I remind you that we continue to follow the Department of Education‘s guidelines, the Governor’s Executive Orders and the Bergen County Health Department‘s recommendations. As I have stated several times, any or all of our plans can change at a moment’s notice based upon any updates in those guidelines, orders or recommendations. At a time when our patience level is at an all-time low and our anxiety level is at an all-time high, we must continue to work together in order to get through this difficult pandemic, which continues to disrupt the lives of all Americans. Please stay safe, wash hands often, wear your mask and social distance to the greatest extent possible.
