DHS Incident Update

On Wednesday, November 25, 2020, an incident occurred during “virtual” classroom instruction. Because the incident involved District teachers, the Dumont School District is legally prohibited from making any public or private comment about the incident and the District’s investigation thereof. Rest assured that this matter is being thoroughly investigated and the District will take all appropriate actions once that investigation has been completed. The views expressed by Dumont staff during this incident were inappropriate and in no way constitute the sentiments of the Dumont Board of Education, Administration, staff or students.  

While this is of course a regrettable and hurtful situation, the Dumont School District is and will continue to respond appropriately to the situation and will take appropriate disciplinary and preventive actions once its investigation into the incident has been concluded.

As this investigation moves forward, the District is in the process of putting schedule and instructional changes in place, which have been impacted by this unacceptable and inexcusable incident. The District is also looking into partnering with outside organizations to provide the necessary targeted training for students and staff.
