At approximately 1:30 p.m., about 45 minutes after student dismissal at Dumont High School, a science teacher was engaging in a routine cleaning procedure in a ventilated hood space designated for this type of cleaning in one of our science lab rooms. During this procedure, an air circulation problem occurred, which caused an odor within the school. The Dumont Police and Fire departments were notified as a safety precaution. The Bergen County Hazmat team arrived at the high school and addressed the concern and cleared the building at roughly 4:30 p.m.
The building has been cleared for all staff and students to return in the morning for our in-person program on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
