The student chosen by DHS was Senior Breanna Gordon. Breanna faced a multitude of challenges in the past few years due to a rare medical condition. District Supervisor of School Counseling Dr. Patti Marchesi spoke on behalf of Breanna at the event and highlighted the heroic qualities that this young woman exemplifies—perseverance, diligence and optimism. Breanna’s parents, Christine and Thomas Gordon, Board of Education President, Mrs. Teri Riva, and Superintendent, Dr. Maria Poidomani, were there to celebrate this special recognition with Breanna.
Breanna prevailed over the obstacles and setbacks put in front of her, and she diligently kept up with her academic assignments even on days when she did not feel up to par. Nevertheless, Breanna pushed forward optimistic that her situation would improve. She currently holds a 4.012 GPA, and will attend Ramapo College of New Jersey focusing her studies in the field of psychology. Congratulations to the DHS 2023 Unsung Hero!
