Dear Dumont Families and Students,

It is truly an honor to serve as your Superintendent of Schools. On behalf of our dedicated administrators, teachers, and staff, I warmly welcome you to the Dumont Public Schools—a district committed to providing educational excellence for every student.

We take great pride in serving the Dumont community and remain dedicated to our mission: to help students become lifelong learners who are empowered to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society. Our schools serve as the heart of learning and inspiration for our community, and our faculty and staff are deeply committed to that mission. Together, we will continue to build on Dumont’s strong traditions of excellence while expanding opportunities that prepare students for success in a changing world.

Our collective efforts have earned recognition at the state and national levels. For five consecutive NJQSAC monitoring cycles, including the most recent in 2024–2025, Dumont Public Schools has been designated as a High Performing District. Dumont High School has also been recognized multiple times by the College Board with the AP District Honor Roll Award. In addition, our students’ average SAT scores continue to rise, consistently surpassing both state and national averages. The Class of 2025 achieved impressive outcomes—acceptances to 153 colleges and universities across 27 states, as well as to the United States Air Force, the U.S. Military Academy, and a university in Colombia—along with more than $4.24 million in scholarships and grants.

We are equally proud of our responsible stewardship of district resources. For several years, the district has maintained budgets with either no increase or only modest increases of up to 2%—without cutting programs. In fact, we have expanded opportunities for students this year by:

  • Extending our math fluency program to Grade 3
  • Introducing a revised Library Media/STEM elective for K–5 students
  • Launching new Health Careers and STEM Careers Pathways at DHS
  • Adding Sports Medicine and Robotics electives at the high school
  • Expanding the Structured Learning Experience (SLE) program to provide more internships and work-study opportunities
  • Implementing districtwide AI resource platforms for students and staff
  • Establishing a therapy dog program to support student and staff well-being

We are also investing in school culture and climate through student mentoring programs, high-quality assemblies, and initiatives that promote social-emotional learning and wellness. Additionally, we are advancing key facilities projects, including our districtwide Unit Ventilator/HVAC replacement, while strengthening technology infrastructure to support modern learning.

I look forward to meeting you, partnering with you, and supporting our schools as we work together to meet the needs of every student.

With gratitude and commitment,

Maria Poidomani, Ed.D.
