Dear Dumont Families and Students:

I am truly honored to serve as your Superintendent of Schools and on behalf of our dedicated administrators, teachers, and staff, want to personally welcome you to our wonderful school district, where we are focused on ensuring educational excellence for every student.

We are proud to serve the community of Dumont by continuing to ensure that our students, as embodied in our mission statement, “become life-long learners and have the opportunity to maximize their potential to become productive and responsible members of society.”

The very focal point of our District’s mission is to be the center of learning and inspiration for the community and our children. The faculty and staff in the Dumont School District are committed to doing just that. By working together, we have the opportunity to build upon the wonderful traditions of excellence that are in place and to continue to create a world-class educational program.

For the past four consecutive NJQSAC monitoring reviews,  the Dumont Public Schools has been recognized by the State as a High Performing District. Dumont High School has also been recognized multiple times in recent years by the College Board as a recipient of the Annual AP District Honor Roll award and our average SAT scores have continued to improve over the last several years, exceeding state and national averages. Impressively, DHS students in the Class of 2024 were accepted at approximately 148 different colleges in 27 different states, and earned over $5 million in scholarships and grants.

The school district has also continued to be fiscally responsible. For the past several years, the district has approved a budget with either a 0% or a minimal increase of 2% to taxpayers without making any cuts to programs, and was still able to impressively introduce new programs and begin new facilities projects this year including: implementing a Computer Science special for Grade 5 students, purchasing and expanding the Sonday Essentials Reading program to Grade 3; purchasing and implementing new Middle School Science materials and training for staff; expanding our Structured Learning Experience (SLE) program at the high school, which supports student internships and work-study opportunities; updating and enhancing our STEM courses in the Middle School; continuing a districtwide Unit Ventilator/HVAC replacement project; replacing school intercom systems and phones that also includes installing phones in every classroom to enhance school safety; reviewing and updating our Security Plan and Procedures; and continuing to secure our technology infrastructure.

I look forward to meeting you, working with you, and providing service and support to our schools as we continue to work diligently together to meet the needs of our students.

Maria Poidomani, Ed.D.
